Course Objectives 1. To teach students how to apply the information acquired in earlier courses for wastewater management of small communities.
2. To demonstrate the similarities and differences of the centralized and decentralized wastewater treatment methods.
3. To introduce the recovery and reuse options of the wastewater from small communities with a holistic approach.
4. To teach the concepts of segregated domestic wastewater streams.
Course Description Conventional and nonconventional treatment systems in small communities, biosolids and septage management, natural treatment systems. package treatment systems, ınfrastructure for nonconventional treatment/management systems based on stream segregation, gray, yellow, brown and black water management.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to:
II. I. Learn about similarities and differences of the application of basic treatment methods in small communities;
II. Manage the wastewater of small communities using conventional treatment systems;
III. Manage the wastewater of small communities using nonconventional treatment systems;
IV. Learn about the concepts of segregated collection of domestic wastewater;
V. Learn about the reuse of materials from segregated streams;
VI. Recover the valuable material from wastes in an integrated approach;
VII. Choose the wastewater management among the different wastewater treatment options.
