Course Objectives Course objectives are as followed:

1. to be able to apply the principles of engineering economics to real problems,
2. to comprehend the fundamentals of environmental economics and to be able to use it in real life,
3. to understand the relation between economy and sustainability
Course Description General Economic Concepts, Production Functions, Consumer Behaviors, Benefits/Cost Concepts, Cost Accounting, Pareto’s Optimum, Simple/Compound Interest, Mathematics of Finance, Nominal and Effective Interest Rate, Environmental Benefit Analysis, Comparison of Investment Alternatives, Selection of the Optimum Project, Time Value of Money and Inflation, Break-even Point, Replacement Analysis, Calculation of Treatment Cost, Economical Analysis of Environmental Quality, Environmental Policy and Analysis, Other Economical Tools in Environmental Management, Sustainable Development, Polluter Pays Principles, Analysis of Environmental Tariffs, Affordability Analysis.
Course Outcomes I. to be aware of general economic concepts,
II. to be able to calculate time value of money,
III. to be able to identify, analyze and solve engineering economic problems in the field of environmental and natural resources,
IV. to be able to determine utilities of environmental goods and services,
V. to be able to understand of the concept of sustainability, environmental protection and optimum use of resources,
VI. to develop analyzing ability of environmental systems within the framework of cause - effect relationships with an integrated approach,
VII. to apply existing technologies to current environmental problems in order to manage environmental quality in an integrated system via assimilating existing techniques and analyzing/ synthesizing them
