Course Objectives

1. To teach fundamentals of soil mechanics
2. To provide knowledge on geotechnical dimensions of environmental
engineering
3. To introduce the fundamentals knowledge required for the introduction of
foundation engineering

Course Description

Physical and index properties of soils. Classification. Compaction, Hydraulic properties, capillarity, permeability. Effective, neutral and total stress. Stress-strain relationship for soils. Stress distribution in soils. Consolidation. Shear strength. Slope stability.
