INS 344E - Steel Structures I
Course Objectives
To acquaint the student with the theory of steel design of buildings using the allowable
Stress design (ASD) philosophy. Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
Design steel tension members, columns, beams, beam-columns, and few
welded and bolted connections according to specifications;
Answer structural steel design problems in exams (such as PE exams); and
Prepare students for lifetime learning as structural steel design evolves, and to
form a foundation for possible post graduate studies in the subject.
Course Description
Design of tension members, columns, beams, beam-columns, and connections using current specifications. Introduction to the design of steel structures.
