CEV 301E - Chemical Processes

Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are
1. To present basic chemical treatment processes (oxidation-reduction, precipitation, complexation, etc.)
2. To present major applications of chemical treatment processes in environmental engineering (softening, disinfection, taste & odor control, heavy metal and phosphorous removals etc.)

Course Description

Introduction to chemical processes; Chemical precipitation and crystallization; Heavy metal removal, phosphate precipitation, hardness removal, fluoride removal; Stabilization of water; Chemical reduction-oxidation; Oxidants; Oxidation of iron and manganese, organics removal, color removal, odor and taste control, sulfide oxidation, cyanide oxidation, chromium reduction; Fundamentals of corrosion, corrosion control methods; Disinfection.
