Course Objectives This is an introductory course on operations research designed for undergraduate level students in engineering departments other than industrial engineering. It will give them the essential tools of operations research to enable them model and make scientifically based decisions.
Course Description Modeling in operations research (OR), linear programming (simplex method, duality, sensitivity analysis), transportation and assignment, integer programming, non-linear programming, goal programming, combinatorial optimization, OR modeling and optimization software (Lindo, Lingo, Excel Solver, GAMS)
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to:
1. Use different mathematical modeling techniques,
2. Solve a linear, an integer, a non-linear programming problem,
3. Solve a transportation or an assignment problem,
4. Interpret the solution of the problem,
5. Understand the sensitivity of a solution to the changes of parameters of a model,
6. Utilize Excel Solver and GAMS software to do these operations
