Course Description Systems of linear equations; solutions, linear dependence and independence, matrix algebra inner and outer products, determinants, vector spaces, null spaces, rank, eigenvalues and eigenvectors the characteritic equation, orthogonality, symmetric matrices and quadtratic forms, dynamic systems.
Course Outcomes Students completing this course will be able to :
1. Solve systems of linear equations. Perform arithmetic operations on vectors and matrices as well as equations thereof. Compute the inverse and determinant of a matrix.
2. Learn the importance of the concepts of linear combination, linear independence, vector space, basis and dimension and be able to use them.
3. Evaluate the eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenvectors of a matrix, and know their function in the solution of dynamical systems.
4. Find an orthonormal basis and calculate an approximate solution to matrix equations.
Pre-requisite(s)
Required Facilities
Other The evaluatıon will consist of the following items:
Homework: 3 of, total 15%
Midterm exam: 1 of, total 35%
Final exam: 1 of, total 50%
To qualify for taking the final exam, the midterm grade must be at least 20%
Any cheating will be punished by subtracting the total weight of that grade from the final grade of the class.

We will be making use of the following software to solve some of the examples/homework. They are not mandatory, but using them will make life easier:
* GNU Octave: A free programming language for scientific programming. GNU Octave is compatible with Matlab (students may also use Matlab, but it is not supported by the course staff). See:

* Python3, Scipy and Numpy for some of the examples/homework. See;
(Package & environment management systems such as Conda, Anaconda etc. are not recommended, but can be used)
