MAK 213 - Material Science

Course Objectives

1.Understanding of metallic materials and their characteristics.
2. Understanding of relationship between mechanical, physical and chemical properties
3. Emphasizing of importance of materials selection in design
4. Defining of heat treatments of steels and understanding of their effects on materials

Course Description

Material properties at atomic level, their effects on macro-behaviour, defects in crystal structure, mechanism of diffusion and its effects on material properties, fatique, fracture and creep principles in metallic materials, tensile behavior of metallic materials, phase diagrams and calculatios, heat treatments, Fe-C system, the effects of heat treatments on steel structures
