Course Objectives
At the end of the course, students;
-Knows how to calculate the cooling load in refrigeration applications.
-Learns the differences between ideal and real vapor compression refrigeration systems and what needs to be done to improve these systems.
-Learns air-standard refrigeration systems and their application areas.
-Knows common and new generation refrigerants used in refrigeration systems and learns the selection of refrigerants for environmentally friendly applications.
-Knows how refrigeration systems should be analyzed within the framework of the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics and how to calculate and evaluate the system performance parameters required to develop these systems.
-Has knowledge about advanced refrigeration systems and their application areas, comparisons, and system selections.
Course Description
Refrigeration applications. Refrigeration systems. Thermodynamics and applications of the vapor compression refrigeration cycle and of air standard refrigeration system. Refrigeration load calculations. Refrigerants, evaporators, compressors, condensers, expansion valves, and refrigerant metering. Refrigeration system piping. Absorption refrigeration.
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will;
-be able to calculate cooling load, to analyze refrigeration systems energetically and exergetically, to find out performance parameters of the refrigeration systems,
- adapt the refrigeration cycle modifications to improve the system performance for more efficient working refrigeration systems,
-be aware that better refrigeration system design will be possible if they meet the sustainability criteria including environmentally friendly approaches
