Course Objectives
1-) Acquiring tools in understanding and predicting resistance and powering of ships
2-) Design of propellers, capability in propulsion analysis
Course Description
Dimensional analysis. Froude’s hypothesis and components of ship resistance; frictional resistance, viscous drag, wave resistance. Resistance at restricted waters. tandard series, statistical methods, the use of diagrams. Modern propulsion devices. Wake field. Propeller hydrodynamics and standard series. omentum, lifting line/surface theory, cavitation. Propeller hull interaction and power prediction. Flow improvement devices. Logic of propeller design. Hull-propeller machinery interaction. Ship trial tests.
Course Outcomes
Upon completing this basic hydrodynamic course the students will get the introductory knowledge on forces acting on hull and the design logic of propellers.
