Course Objectives
1. To provide students with the necessary knowledge of ship resistance
2. To provide students with the ability to identify, analyze/formulate and solve engineering problems in ship hydrodynamics.
3. To encourage the students to use library and other resources (internet etc.) and to make small scale research on given problems.
4. To provide the students with the ability to report and graphically present their findings on given problems and assignments.
5. To equip the students with the skill of using computational tools in resistance calculations.
Course Description
Dimensional analysis. Froude’s hypothesis and components of ship resistance; frictional resistance, viscous drag, boundary layer, wave resistance. Computational resistance analysis. Resistance at restricted waters. Standard series, statistical methods, the use of diagrams. Appendage resistance.
Course Outcomes
Students who pass the course will be able to:
I. Have the necessary knowledge to analyze ship resistance problems,
II. Demonstrate an ability to analyze and solve the problems individually while studying on the assignments and to participate and collaborate with other students while studying on project.
III. Gain a wide view of angle for multi-purpose design logic.
IV. Gain an insight in hydrodynamic experiments and analyze experimental data
V. Predict the ship power by numerical and experimental methods.
