Course Objectives
The main aim of this course is to give students an understanding of mechanisms of interaction between the vessel and fluids (air and water) surrounding her and the conditions of dynamic equilibrium that determine how she moves.
Course Description
General Concepts and Definitions of Sailing, Balances of Forces, Stability of Sailing Vessel, Metacentre, Initial Stability Slope, Roll Stifness, Hydrodynamics of Sailing Vessel, Resistance Components, Keel and Rudder Design, Aerodynamics of Sailing, Induced Drag, Dynamics of Sailing Boat, Sail Design, Model Tests.
