Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the fundamental principles and concepts of Acoustics, to teach the steps of mathematical modeling for the simple phenomena such as sound and to teach the mathematical solution for different applications.
Course Description
The physical mechanism of acoustics will be explained within the scope of Hydroacoustics course. Mathematical methods are applied to homogeneous wave equations to solve that govern the propagation of pressure disturbance in the medium. The theoretical bacground of wave propagation in the medium will be examplified for different ship form and underwater vechicles such as submarines to understand noise effects and noise sources.
Course Outcomes
(1) Know the fundamental physical principles of acoustics
(2) Compose the mathematical model of the physical system
(3) Perform different mathematical methods to solve the wave equations
(4) Compute noise distribution of ship form using computational approach
(5) Investigate underwater acoustics using various empirical and semi-empirical formulation.
