Course Objectives

3 - Determination of ship resistance at restricted and shallow water
4 - Understand the basic principles of ship resistance and calculate power of marine engines

Course Description

General definition of ship resistance. Component of resistance. Derivation of equations related to resistance by dimensional analysis. Effect of roughness and pollution on resistance. Wave-making resistance and computational methods. Similarity laws. Evaluation of offshore structural elements and their appendages resistance having circular, elliptical and rectangular cross sections. Evaluation of ships effective horsepower I various methods. Resistance increase in waves.
