Course Objectives 1.Learn the basics of genetics and the mechanisms of genetic variations
2.Learn the different modes of inheritance and the genetic basics of diseases
3. Learn the main quantitative analyses used genetic analyses
4. Learn population and evolutionary genetics
5. Have an idea about genetic counselling and ethical issues
Course Description Basic concepts of genetics; Mendelian and complex modes of inheritance; chromosomal inheritance; chromosomal defects; population genetics; evolutionary genetics; ethical issues in genetic research and counselling.
Course Outcomes I. To understand the main concepts of genetics
II. To be able to differentiate among different modes of inheritance patterns,
III. To be able identify human chromosomes and learn their abnormalites
IV. Learn the methods used in identification of genetic diseases
V. To be able to analyze the basics of population and evolution genetics
