Course Objectives The aims is to learn basic concepts and practical applications of recombinant DNA techniques and to provide a solid background to recombinant DNA technology and demonstrate the power of emerging technologies for gene identification and cloning and genomic manipulation
Course Description Basic techniques, cutting and joining DNA molecules, cloning vectors, cloning strategies, recombinant selection and screening, expression of cloned DNA molecules, DNA sequencing, PCR, changing the genes:site directed mutagenesis, gene transfer to plant and animal cells
Course Outcomes Students will have an understanding of basic recombinant DNA techniques and will be able to critically read primary research articles and apply the recombinant techniques discussed in class to these readings. In addition students will be able to comprehend all of the basic techniques of recombinant DNA analysis and be able to appreciate how these methods are applied to specific biological problems
