Course Objectives 1. To analyse the social relations which shape the cities;
2. Introduce the processes of capitalist urbanisation and industrialisation that started in the Nineteenth Century in a historical and comparative perspective;
3. Analyse contemporary processes of urban change and urban problems;
4. Develop the ability to read texts, make research and write;
5. Develop the ability to communicate and discuss issues effectively.
Course Description This course covers prominent issues about contemporary urban society and space. It is composed of lectures and student work. Lectures address different theoretical approaches in the discipline of urban studies to major urban questions as well as cases from Turkey and the world. They are designed in the form of answers to specified urban questions that are currently discussed in the academic journals and is relevant to the Turkish experience. Student work aims to develop the capacity of students to read, write, research and present socio-spatial issues. They include focused in class discussions and home assignments based on reading, research, reflection and insight. Student work also aim to help them establish the connection between their prospective professions and urban society.
Course Outcomes Students who pass this course will be able to;?
