Course Objectives Upon successful completion of course, the student will be able to:
 
Utilize terminology as it relates to furnishing and decorating the interior environment,
Understand the historical, cultural and business perspective of developing and visually presenting home product,
Understand the nature of materials and their design opportunities for residential products,
Understand appropriate design in relation to environment, space and human characteristics,
Identify and locate cultural and industry resources for the research, design, and development of home product,
Understand the role of inspiration in the design process,
Understand the design process and design criteria used to create a successful product.
Course Description This course presents an introduction to the evolution of the elements of design, color and theory in the decorative arts that constitute the home products industry. Emphasis is placed on the development of our contemporary approach to home product development and design. Students explore the influence of and connections among the historical, cultural and social perspectives of product for the home. Students develop an appreciation of home product design and its impact on residential product and decorative arts.
