Course Objectives Using fashion designer methodology students digitally create fabrics and explore textile
possibilities for garments they have designed, using fashion industry
proprietary/simulation CAD software. Students learn the fundamentals of merging
garment and fabric design to create collections with an overall balance of color, pattern,
texture, proportion, and function.
(Current software in use is Kaledo).
Course Description Using fashion designer methodology students digitally create fabrics and explore textile possibilities for garments they have designed, using fashion industry proprietary/simulation CAD software. Students learn the fundamentals of merging garment and fabric design to create collections with an overall balance of color, pattern,texture, proportion, and function.
(Current software in use is Kaledo).
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Critically analyze the assigned design prompt and create original digital woven,
print and knit designs, within the context of creating a mini Collection for the
selected market.
• Compile appropriate and well considered fabrications for concept and create
multiple color ways of the digital print, knit and weave fabrics.
• Explore & assess creative and functional ideas to resolve the design challenge
• Appropriately apply technical solutions for the development & resolution of the
design concept/prompt.
• Demonstrate, organize, & apply critical thinking in design development that
shows clear market awareness by creating original digital silhouettes that
incorporate digital fabric designs, given merchandising criteria for a defined
market.
• Present design concepts in a concise and clear manner (verbally, digitally,
&visually).
• Show applied growth in technical skills proficiency in design solutions.
• Generate comprehensive technical data sheets for use in industry standard design
development packages.
• Produce and manage Style Line Sheets.
