Course Objectives 1. Design of new monomers
2. Polymerization of these monomers and reactions of these polymers
3. Application of functional polymers
Course Description Introduction to functional polymers. Structure of polymer molecules.Design and production of new functional monomers. Polymerization of functional monomers. Modification methods for synthesis of functional polymers. Polymer supported chemical reactions. Polymeric catalysts: Polymer bonded metal catalysts and phase transfer catalysts on polymers.Synthesis and applications of polymeric resins. Synthesis, characterizations and applications of liquid crystalline polymers. Microlithography. Solar energy and biomedical applications of functional polymers.
Course Outcomes Upon succesful completion of this course, students will:
1. Understand properties and functions of polymers in relation to the molecular structure,
2. Design suitable monomers for obtaining polymers with desired functionality,
3. Be able to offer and design functional polymers for industrial applications,
4. Search on topics related to functional polymers
