JFM 505E - Physics&Strc.of the EarthCrust
Course Objectives
1. Gaining recent and detailed knowledge about the physical and structural characteristics of the Earth’s crust and the uppermost mantle derived from geophysical studies by using the active learning methods.
2. Making a literature search and review on the recent (~ the last 10 years) published studies (SCI) about the Earth’s crust and the uppermost mantle beneath Turkey and surroundings.
Course Description
Evolution of the oceanic and continental crust and uppermost mantle.
Physical properties and structure of oceanic and continental crust and upper mantle.
Petrologic properties of the oceanic and continental crust and upper mantle rocks.
Classification of the oceanic and continental crustal structures based on their physical and structural characteristics.
Examples for tectonic structures of the oceanic and continental crust and Mohorovicic discontinuity.
