Course Objectives

1.To provide basic literature on ecology, urban design & ecological design
2. To discuss ecological basis of urbanization problems.
3. To introduce contemporary approaches and methods in urban ecological design
4.To provide information about urban ecology and its implication on urban design process
5.To discuss the design solutions based on environmental performance in urban space.

Course Description

Ecological basis of urbanization problems, basic concepts of ecology, urban design and urban ecology. principles of ecological design, urban ecosysem, ecological and social factors taht inform urban design. Urban hydrology, urban soil, urban micro-climate, biodiversity, urban flora, corridors, connectivity. Landscape ecological principles as a spatial theory (Patch-Corridor-Matrix Model). Flows in urban environment, artful rainwater management, the urban edge, ecological performance in urban environment, ecology and infrastructure, contemporary design praxix and ecology.
