Course Objectives To introduce concepts, the prominent hypotheses, models , issues and debates in the areas of visual and spatial cognition

To introduce and discuss some of the prominent research methods adapted in spatial and visual cognition research

To introduce and discuss the previous research conducted on visual and spatial reasoning and visual and spatial abilities in design
Course Description This course will discuss research in visual and spatial cognition towards unfolding visual/spatial thinking in design. These include research in visual mental imagery, (spatial) mental models and visual thinking in design, individual differences in visual/spatial abilities, the roles of and the relationship between external and mental visuospatial representations and individual differences in visual/spatial abilities.
Course Outcomes Establish an in-depth understanding about the prominent issues in the areas of visual and spatial cognition

Learn about the research methods adapted in visual and spatial cognition research

Be able to design a research study for investigating an issue of their interest in visual and/or spatial cognition (in design)

Improve their skills in formulating research problems and developing research proposals
