Course Objectives 1. Introduction of in-situ testing methods to determine the characteristics of soils.
2. Selecting the appropriate method.
3. Interpretation of test results.
4. Determining design parameters
Course Description Borings and Soil Sampling. Standard Penetration Test (SPT). Cone Penetration Test (CPT). Dynamic Penetration and other Sounding Tests. Plate Loading Test. In-situ Density Measurements, In-situ California Bearing Ratio Test (CBR). Field Shear Vane Test, Pressuremeter and Dilatometer Tests. In-situ Permeability Testing, Groundwater Pressure Measurements. Dynamic Soil Properties based on in-situ Measurements. Microtremor Measurements in Geotechnical Engineering. In-situ stress and Deformation Measurements.

M.Sc. students who take this course gain knowledge, skills and proficiency in the following subjects
1. In-situ testing methods in geotechnical engineering and need for the field test.
2. Determining drilling the depth and its number.
3. In-situ penetration tests and factors affecting the result and correction.
4. Stress-strain properties of the soils in the field.
5. Methods for determining the dynamic soil properties in the field.
6. Interpretation of test results and decision of experiment method
7. Comparison of design parameters defined in different field methods and evaluation
