MTS 516 - Theory and Methodology in Housing Research

Course Objectives

Housing problem, sources and different aspects of housing problem, housing problem and conditions in Turkey. Qualitative study of housing. Problems of users, post-occupation evaluation. Problems at environmental and spatial scale. Evaluation of different alternatives: study of selected examples by considering environment, house and user’s perspectives.

Peculiar characteristics of housing and housing research; Satisfaction and housing and environmental quality; Post-occupancy evaluation studies in housing; Concept, hypothesis, strategy and method in research planning; Research approaches: diagnostic, descriptive, theoretical, action; Research design: case study, survey, experiment; Research environment: natural, contrived; Data collection techniques: Observation (observing physical cues, observing behavior), Asking questions (structured interview, questionnaire), Archives; Data analysis; Reporting.
