Course Objectives
1. To introduce theoretical and operational principles underlying the technology related with energy/environmental systems, computer modeling and simulation.
2. To develop an understanding of the different techniques for the energy simulation of buildings using physical scale models.
3. To develop an understanding of the computer simulation techniques for estimating performance in buildings.
4. To enable appropriate choices with regard to the simulation software depending on the performance requirement.
Course Description
This course aims to give an introduction of theoretical and operational principles underlying the technology related with energy/environmental systems, computer modeling and simulation as a viable approach to design and performance evaluation. It introduces the benefits, concepts, approaches, assumptions and limitations of state of the art building performance simulation methods. The practical work is designed to demonstrate the concepts introduced in the lectures, and to gain practical "hands-on" experience in building performance simulation software.
Course Outcomes
Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge, skills and proficiencies;
1. To be able to demonstrate an understanding of the differences between the scale model and computing techniques for building simulation
2. To be able to make an appropriate choice of simulation tools for performance evaluation
3 . To be able to make performance evaluations by incorporation the concepts related with energy simulation concepts.
4.To be able to solve uncomplicated problems related with building energy performance evaluation.
