Course Objectives 1. to learn about the use of contemporary tools and approaches for information handling in construction industry,
2. to be able to analyze and evaluate the information requirements of any type of organization in construction industry,
3. to learn basic terms, tools and processes in developing an information system to cooperate with IT professionals,
4. to gain the skills and understanding of analyzing, designing, developing and implementing processes of an information system required by construction organizations.
Course Description Basic concepts and components of IS/IT, Two-tiered/client-server and three-tiered/web-based architectures for information systems, the concept of system modeling, modeling languages for information systems; Product models, Process Models, Project Models – Reference models, Application models, standardization of the information, Information requirements of construction professionals and current level of IS/IT support, Integrated Information Systems in construction industry, Components of an Information System: DPS, MIS, OAS, ES, DSS, Databases, Relational Database Architecture, System Analysis and Model Development
Course Outcomes Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge, skills and proficiencies;
1. Grasping the inter-disciplinary interaction related to building production and informatics areas;
2. The ability to evaluate and use new information related to information technology in the building production area with a systematical approach.
3. Developing a new idea, method, design and/or application which brings about innovation in the building production area, applying the tools of information technology to the area,
4. Contributing to the progress in the building production area by independently carrying out a study which uses the tools of information technology,
5. Fulfilling the leader role in the environments where solutions are sought for the original and inter-disciplinary problems,
6. Developing new ideas and methods related to building production area by making use of high level intellectual processes such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making,
7. Contributing to the society’s state and progress towards being an information society by announcing and promoting the technological, scientific and social developments in building production area.
