Course Objectives The objective of this course is to provide students with an understanding of how the field of engineering was created, how it has evolved, and how engineering accomplishments have impacted society throughout history. This course examines engineering accomplishment in thistory such as the Seven Wonders of the World, machines, structures, buildings, transportation, and innovations, and the societies responsible ranging from ancient civilizations to the twenty-first century.
Course Description The impact of engineering on society throughout history, Origin of engineering, Greek engineering, imperial civilization, revolution in power (middle ages), foundations for industry, roads, rivers and canals, steam wessels and locomotives, transportation, electrification, sanitation and hydraulic engineering, construction, reflection on the impact of engineering in society.
Course Outcomes Students who succeed in this course will improve their ability to;
1. Demonstrate the historical chronology related to engineering developments,
2. Summarize the major engineering accomplishments associated with particular eras in times
3. Explain the impact engineering has had on society throughout history,
Identify items in history which were a product of engineering.
