BVT 521E - Scientific Revolution
Course Objectives
1. To introduce basic figures and events of the Scientific Revolution;
2. To teach the social and political background of the rise of modern science;
3. To enable students to discuss major issues and debates in the history writing of the Scientific Revolution
4. To make students write a well-organized academic essay with a sound use of primary and secondary sources; to develop their written and oral expression skills
Course Description
Origins of Modern Science in Early Modern Europe; history and historiography of the Scientific Revolution; social and political context of the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge in Europe between 15th and 18th centuries; institutions, patrons and networks of new scientific enquiry; major figures, debates and intellectual output behind the rise of experimental science
