Course Objectives

1. To develop a sense of different compositional techniques and styles being composed in today.
2. To explore different ways of writing about contemporary music.
3. To understand the different aesthetic aims of a diverse body of composers.

Course Description

Review and study of music composed in the last thirty years by a diverse group of composers exhibiting a wide range of compositional styles and aesthetic positions. This course reflects an effort to come to terms with and understand musical composition composition as it recently has been and to theorize about where it might go.
