Course Objectives 1. To identify and transcribe music notation systems in advance level.
2. To provide the transmission of pieces by studying on various music notation system
3. To improve the competency on fixing text in the transcriptions
Course Description History of music notations used in Ottoman Turkish Music. Music Notation by letters. Ebced notation system and applications. Transcription of the works written in Ebced notation system. Safiyyüddin and Abdülbaki Nasır Dede Music notation. Similar musical notation by letters: Kantemiroğlu-Kevseri music notation. European style music notation: Ali Ufki Bey notation system. Music notation by signs: Hamparsum notation system and applications
Course Outcomes Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge skills and competencies;
I. Advanced knowledge on music notation systems
II. Skill on reading, comprehending and evaluating music notation systems
III. Competency on reading and comparing music notation systems without selecting any term or type of writing
IV. Competancy on the application of music notation systems
