GDP 502E - Dance Anthroplogy

Course Objectives

1-To give a background information necessary to develop a critical look at the dominant definitions of “dance”.
2-To make connection between dance and other disciplines.
3-To give a background information necessary to develop a critical understanding of dance phenomena in different sociocultural, economical and political contexts.

Course Description

Historical evolution and key issues of dance anthropology. An overview of the discipline of dance anthropology. Methodology for the analysis of structured movement systems in social, cultural, historical, political etc. contexts. Fieldwork and the researcher’s position in this method of analysis.
