Course Objectives
To gain an awareness of the critical and intellectual precursors of the discipline of Sound Studies.
To engage students with current debates and approaches to sound studies.
To help students identify specific topics within sound studies relevant to their own primary area of focus.
To produce one high quality scholarly paper on a chosen topic.
Course Description
Contemporary debates in the field of sound studies; new critical approaches to sound in a variety of multidisciplinary subjects; comparative analysis of theories of listening in electroacoustic music, psychoacoustics, and political theory; inter-cultural perspectives on industrial noise control standards; metaphors of listening in social media interactions; theoretical framework of sonification.
