Course Objectives Course aims to
1. describe various financial markets, institutions and instruments,
2. provide an ability to value financial assets, determine how risky they are and develop strategies to hedge these risks.
Course Description Types of financial markets existing in the world, their institutional organization, instruments traded therein, derivative products, characteristics of interest rates, valuation of securities using interest rates, the relationship between risk and return, banks and central banks
Course Outcomes I. Ability to distinguish between the types of world financial markets and their operations,
II. Ability to detect the relation and the differences between various financial instruments,
III. Ability to measure risk and interpret the riskiness of financial assets,
IV. Ability to value financial assets by models based on interest rates,
V. Knowledge to determine when and how money, capital and FX market instruments are used,
VI. Ability to develop hedging strategies by derivatives instruments,
VII. Knowledge about central bank operations and their effects in the economy,
VIII. Ability to determine the profitability, solvency and market value of banks based on financial statements.
