Course Objectives

1. Provides a comprehensive overview of human factors issues within the maritime domain
2. Discusses a socio-technical network that incorporates human, group, technology, work practice, organization, and work environment aspects
3. Outlines dimensions of human factors
4. Covers aspects of cognitive psychology as it is applied to maritime human factors such as senses and perception, information processing and decision making, and human behavior

History and development of maritime human factors , Human factors, accidents and human error, The socio-technical system model , Human senses, perception, cognition behaviour, Individual and task ınteraction factors ,work, rest and work rest cycles,mental workload,physical workload, stress, Communication,social role and power, the four dimensions of verbal communication,transaction analysis,teamwork, Individual and physical environment ınteraction factors, Interaction of ındividual factors and technological factors, Individual factors of organisational failure, Culture in the maritime work environment, The importance of human-machine ınteraction in maritime safety, An introduction to maritime human factors methods, Application of data acquisition and analysis techniques to key human factors ıssues, Cost-benefit analysis and human factors
