Course Objectives
Examine the 19th century Turkish Music in which republic idea and concept, in terms of studies of musicology and music theory.
• Examine the 20th century Turkish Music in which republic idea and concept, in terms of studies of musicology and music theory.
Course Description
The effect and results of westernization movement in Ottoman society on the 19th and 20th century Turkish Music. Music politics in the republic period. The effect of republic and Westernization movements on the theory of music. Studies and researches carried upon 20th century Turkish Makam music and theory: Systems of Rauf Yekta, Arel - Ezgi - Uzdilek. 20th century composition and practice tradition, Review and comparative studies on different sound systems and music theories in Turkish music in 20th.cc.
Course Outcomes
I. Knowledge on foundations of tuning systems used in Turkish Makam Music,
II. Competency on historical and comparative knowledge about tuning systems used in Turkish Makam Music
III. Knowledge on music theory of the 19th and 20th centuries.
IV. Knowledge on the studies in the 20th and 21st century.
