Course Objectives 1.To analyse the connection between the works of Kevseri and Kantemiroğlu who are crucial on the issues of makam, perde, usul in musicological research.
2.To introduce the transformations of 18th century musical life by studying the musicians and theirworks in the period of III. Selim.
Course Description Turkish music studies in the 18th century and general overview on Kantemir’s history book. Studying the Kantemiroğlu manuscript: Theory and notation chapters. Kantemiroğlu notation system and evaluation of the related works. Relation between Kantemiroğlu manuscript and Kevseri manuscript. Echole of III.Selim. Music theory and theory manuscripts of his era. New maqams. Analysis of maqams. Music notation systems. Composers of the period referencing to Atrabül Asar of Şeyhülislam Esad Efendi.

III.Skill on performing the repertoire of Kantemir regarding the characteristics of the period.
