Course Objectives

1. To instill in students the habit of conducting chemistry experiments under safe conditions.
2. To reinforce chemical knowledge through experiments.
3. To practice basic experimental techniques and the use of certain instruments.
4. To enable students to write scientific reports.
5. To help students understand the connection between chemicals and daily life.

Course Description

Laboratory safety rules, basic chemical concepts, Matter: Properties and measurement, Atoms and atomic theory, Electronic structure of the atom, Periodic table and atomic properties, Chemical compounds, Chemical reactions, Introduction to aqueous solution reactions, Gases, Thermochemistry, Chemical bonds (basic concepts and bonding theories), Intermolecular forces: Liquids and solids, Solutions and their physical properties, Chemical equilibrium and its principles, Acids and bases, Spontaneous change: Entropy and Gibbs energy.
