Course Description
Marine Geochemistry is a research field that covers the ongoing processes marine chemical, physical, biologic and geologic process controlling mechanisms of marine environment. This course introduces students the seawater chemistry and sediments, formation, alteration, deposition and diagenetic processes. In this course, element cycles (carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus), climate, paleoclimate and paleoenvironment fields are also introduced.
Course Outcomes
M.Sc./Ph.D. students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skill and competency in the following subjects;
1. Basics of the field of marine geochemistry
2. Composition of the seawater and ocean circulation
3. Marine biologic processes and importance for the element cycles
4. Basics of the marine sediments and marine microfossils
5. Application of marine geochemistry in climate, paleoclimate and paleoenvironment fields.
