Course Objectives

1.Learning the basic knowladge and concepts in rock mechanics
2.Understanding stress-strain processes taking place in earth crust.
3.Environmental conditions of rock affecting the physical and mechanical properties
4.Failure mechanism and the importance of time dependent behaviour for stability in geotechnical apllications.

Course Description

The course outlines the theory of failure in rock materials and the parameters affecting the behavior of rock materials. It presents the index and mechanical properties of rock materials, gives different examples of geo technical application on rock and describes method of application to solve the problems in rock engineering.
