MYE 549E - Advanced Orchestration
Course Objectives
1, To survey a sample of orchestral literature to gain a sense of how the orchestra has changed over time and to learn how the orchestra has been written for
2, To study both traditional orchestration techniques as well as current extended practices
3, To gain experience by writing for instruments and hearing the results
Course Description
Weekly study of a different orchestral score, writing of three composition assignments which will be read by live, focusing on a different instrumentation (i,e, string quartet, woodwind quintet, etc,) , focusing writing on specific instrumental combinations, history of composition, Analysing of some famous composer’s works,
