Course Objectives • To study the musics of the world in terms of regions, countries and cultural areas comperatively.
• To interprete musical cultures in various identity representations
• To contribute individual studies of the students through learning musical cultures in the world and debates on musics of the world and contributing to the students’ original studies in that context.
Course Description Study of music cultures from various regions of the world in different contexts such as migration, memory, identity, gender, politics, beliefs and rituals.
Course Outcomes Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge, skills and competencies;
I. Ability on recognizing and describing various musical traditions and the peoples who create them.
II. Competency on having cross-cultural perspective about the musics of the world.
III. Knowledge on world music literature, which has a significant role in ethnomusicology discipline.
IV. Competency on positioning of Turkish musics in the cultural history by means of those studies.
