Course Objectives

1-To give information about the historical development of the folk dances in Turkey.
2-To give a background information necessary to develop a critical understanding of dance phenomena in different sociocultural, economical and political contexts.

Course Description

Folk dance compilations, scientific and artistic works, institutionalization process in post-republic Turkey. Approaching these works within the sociological and ideological context. Transformation process of folk dances to the performing arts. The effects of different dance styles and schools on folk dances in Turkey.
