Course Objectives		1-To give information about the historical development of the folk dances in Turkey. 2-To give a background information necessary to develop a critical understanding of dance phenomena in different sociocultural, economical and political contexts.
Course Description		Folk dance compilations, scientific and artistic works, institutionalization process in post-republic Turkey. Approaching these works within the sociological and ideological context. Transformation process of folk dances to the performing arts. The effects of different dance styles and schools on folk dances in Turkey.
Course Outcomes		Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge skills and competencies; 1-Background knowledge on the historical development of the folk dances in Turkey. 2-To learn the process of transforming to stage arts from folk dances 3-Ability of interpreting knowledge on the basis of cultural, political, social and historical viewpoints.
